Before Ronald D Moore’s recent remake of Battlestar Galactica a group of people led by original series actor Richard Hatch produced a trailer called Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming, it’s purpose was to ( hopefully ) create interest in reviving the 70′s science fiction series and continuing the adventures of the Galactica crew.

Only network executives and fans attending some American science fiction conventions ever got to see the trailer, as a fan of the original version of Battlestar Galactica this was massively frustrating, some stills from it were printed in various science fiction magazines and it did look interesting.

I given up on ever seeing the trailer until a couple of years ago when I found a copy of it online that was filmed by someone with a video camera and to be honest it was hard to tell what was going on for most of it.

Today while messing around online I found a watchable quality copy so I thought I’d share it here for anyone who might be interested.

I loved The Flash when it was first broadcast on TV back in the 90′s, there was something I found very appealing about a serious attempt to do a live-action superhero TV series.

Around 2 years ago I picked up the TV series on DVD and I’ve only just recently finished re-watching it, in hindsight I think the producers were a little too ambitious with what they could with their budget and special effects technology at the time.

This isn’t to say the series was bad but it tended to avoid special effects whenever possible and most of the villains in the series were kind of bland and ordinary, I did really like the production design for the series, it’s set along with the lighting gave The Flash a very distinctive look.

I guess now in the era of superhero movies it’s extremely unlikely there will be another live-action Flash TV series which I think is a real shame since with the advances in special effects technology you could do a character like The Flash and his Rogues Gallery justice

I still like The Flash TV series but even back then with a little more money to help with production it could’ve been an outstanding piece of television.

Doctor Who is a pretty unique show in that it has an extremely long history and it’s been based around one character for that entire time unlike say Star Trek which also has a long history but is based around several different groups of characters.

The show originally ran from 1963 to 1989 and during that time the part of the Doctor was played by seven different actors and also produced by several different producers ( my favorite being Philip Hinchcliffe ) and this brings up something I find fascinating, fans often talk about their favorite Doctor but a lot of Doctor Who fans also talk about their favorite producer, I can’t think of another show where it’s fans do this.

Flash forward to 2005 and Russell T Davies has managed to convince the BBC to revive the series and it now has the budget and support that previous producers could only have dreamed of, Russell T Davis ( RTD ) introduced the show to an new audience and it was pretty much a runaway success from the beginning.

RTD recieved a lot of critisism from a lot of fans and some of it was well deserved, like all shows it had some fantastic episodes and some pretty bad ones but at the end of the day Doctor Who was back and it was about time.

While he is no longer producing Doctor Who RTD continues to work on both spin-off shows Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures ( where apparently he’ll be writing a story that will feature the return of Jo Grant as well as feature the Eleventh Doctor ), personally I’d be interested in seeing him write a script or two in the future.
